Business Technology: Administrative Assistant Concentration

Students in the Business Technology: Administrative Assistant Concentration acquire a wide range of technology, communication, and organizational skills that prepare them for support positions in a business or municipal office setting.  Students in this concentration develop essential computer skills, write and format business documents; use a variety of information processing tools; administer, organize and apply correct office procedures in various settings.

Students who are matriculated and place into developmental math and /or English are required to begin the course sequence in the first semester. Please see an advisor with questions.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Business Technology: Administrative Assistant concentration, students are able to:

  • Read, write, discuss and think critically about topics in business.
  • Analyze ethical issues and apply ethical standards in the performance of responsibilities in various office positions.
  • Synthesize information from communications and provide appropriate customer service and solve business problems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in file management and transfer across different platforms, including network and cloud storage.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive skills in using personal computers, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and various digital tools.
  • Apply effective research techniques using the Internet and communicated professionally via email.
  • Work well with teams in a professional office.
  • Assume positions in a variety of business or municipal office settings.
  • Transfer to baccalaureate programs.

Prerequisite Statement

To graduate within this program in the specified time, students must begin in the Fall semester and successfully place into required courses based on placement test results and/or high school GPA. Academic advisors can assist with questions.

Program Completion for Business Programs

Completion of a program is based on full time enrollment. Many of our students attend part time and may not complete within the specified timeline.

Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Requirement for Business Programs

College-level MAT courses meet the Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning General Education requirement for all business degrees. ECO101: Macroeconomics and ECO102: Microeconomics will meet the Behavior & Social Science general education requirement.
