This course introduces the history, technique, and cultural significance of hip-hop and street dance. Students explore foundational styles such as disco funk, locking, popping, grooving, voguing, whacking, waving and breakdancing while developing rhythm, musicality, and choreography skills. The course examines the social and cultural contexts that shaped these dance forms, including community, identity, and activism. Through movement practice, discussions, and media analysis, students develop a deeper understanding of hip-hop as a global cultural force. No prior dance experience is required.
