DAS112: Clinical Experience

Clinical experiences in chairside dental assisting procedures commonly performed in a general dental office including radiology procedures and work with materials and impressions. Students will assist dentists and/or hygienists in accomplishing necessary dental procedures for patients while rotating through the clinical areas to obtain maximum clinical exposures and experiences. Students will be supervised and evaluated by on-site clinical staff and clinical faculty. Students will also rotate through the dental hygiene clinic for experience assisting the dental hygienist and working in the sterilization area and front desk reception.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Dental Assisting Program and ENL108Critical Reading & Thinking or ESL201English for Speakers of Other Languages III: Advanced or satisfactory basic skills assessment score. Radiology and OSHA Certification*. Successful Completion of the following courses with a grade of C or above DAS100: Dental Radiology and Lab, DAS102: Dental Materials and Lab, DAS104: Dental Anatomy, DAS106: Chairside Dental Assisting, DAS108: Dental Office Management, DAS110: OSHA Compliance - Infection Prevention and Control

*Radiology Certification Exam is given at the end of DAS100 and OSHA Infection Control Exam is given at the end of DAS110. Both are required for externship/clinical experience rotation and initial licensure application to the state of Massachusetts for dental assistants.
