This is the second course in a two-part series on 3D mechanical design, tailored for students pursuing careers as product engineers, architects, and designers. Using Solidworks computer-aided design (CAD) software, sustainability is explored in depth as part of the circular economy and students learn strategies for designing better products that not only enhance productivity and profitability but also emphasize efficiency, durability, and longer product lifespans. The curriculum covers complex modeling techniques, assemblies, and design automation, all while integrating real-world sustainability practices such as material selection, life-cycle assessment (LCA), and design for repairability, durability, and recyclability. Students will hone their SolidWorks skills and will be given the opportunity to test for both the Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) and Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) exams. This course bridges technical expertise with ecological awareness, preparing graduates for industry certification and responsible innovation.
